ADESA Winnipeg Gives Children’s Charity Largest Donation on Record… Again.
This past fall, ADESA Winnipeg's Annual Golden Gavel Golf Classic and Charity Auction raised over $260,000 for Variety, the Children’s Charity in what turned out to be the biggest Golden Gavel yet. The 24th annual Golden Gavel, held on September 14, 2011, at the Glendale Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba, surpassed last year’s total of $195,000. The $260,000 was the largest amount of money ever raised at a single-day event for Variety International, surpassing the record set by last year’s Golden Gavel.
Wayne Rogers, Variety Manitoba’s executive director, who was on hand for the day’s events, was visibly moved by the success of the event when the totals were announced at the end of the evening. Speaking after the event, Rogers said “It was incredible… Gregg Maidment (ADESA Winnipeg's General Manager) and his staff were outstanding”.
Gregg Maidment, speaking after the event, noted his surprise at the results. ADESA Winnipeg's goal of the event was $225,000, and the event far exceeded that mark. This is, perhaps, not surprising, as the Golden Gavel’s success has been incredible in the last few years, with last year’s total of $190,000 besting the 22nd Golden Gavel’s $135,000, which itself beat the 21st Golden Gavel’s total of $120,000.
Variety was chosen by ADESA Winnipeg's staff years ago because of its commitment to children, and its reliance on volunteers, which ensures that more funds make it to deserving youth. ADESA Winnipeg's commitment to support Variety is growing and evolving. Beginning in 2012, ADESA Winnipeg will be launching a trial “Donate-a-Car” program in partnership with Variety Manitoba. Wayne Rogers has said he hopes to have the program be a model for other Variety programs worldwide, and will be presenting the program to Variety International at their annual convention in Spring 2012.
